If you haven’t heard, the basketball business is pretty lucrative nowadays. The minimum NBA salary—and this is if you have zero (!) years of experience in the Association—is $898,310. Not a bad shake for a rookie. That’s all to say: most of these guys have some spare change sitting around.
Take Ben Simmons, the Philadelphia 76ers’s all-star guard. In a video interview for our “Curated” series—where celebrities show us their prized possessions—we got to see what Simmons has been able to collect since he signed his latest contract extension. In the video, Simmons gives Esquire the grand tour of his home, showing off his formidable car collection, game room stuffed with customized gear (and a dog bed), and an impressive jersey collection. Simmons’s favorite jersey, though? Not Magic Johnson’s, or Chris Paul’s, even if he has those ones. It’s a signed Lionel Messi jersey.
“Probably one of my favorite athletes of all time,” Simmons says of the soccer star. “He’s just incredible [at] what he does at such a high level.”
Check out the rest of the interview, where Simmons walks through every bit of his gaming room, gives his five tips for playing Call of Duty (tip three is a big one: bring your own snacks to practice), and explains how he got on the eight-month-deep wait list for his favorite custom car.
