‘All I remember is just seeing a white light’: Jeremih opens up on coronavirus health crisis that landed him in ICU
Jeremih opened up about his debilitating battle with coronavirus, saying all he remembers seeing is ‘a white light’ amid the health crisis.
The 33-year-old chat on Tuesday with Sway’s Universe recounting his experience as he battled the deadly virus last month in Chicago’s Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was discharged from earlier this month.
‘What I can say is, man, it definitely is real,’ Jeremih said. ‘I didn’t take it for granted. And truth be told, I’m a living, walking testimony.

‘To let y’all know, I was really down bad for the last month and a half. While I was in there – you know, I don’t even remember the day I went in. That’s how messed up I was.’
The Chicago native, whose full name is Jeremy Felton, opened up on the details of his hospitalization, noting that his mother had to show him pictures of him in the ICU to help jar his memory about the experience.
‘I had the tube down my throat for about a week and a half. I was really, like, in a dream, and I ain’t gonna lie, I woke up about two times and all I remember is just seeing a white light.
He said he was eventually diagnosed with a multisystem inflammatory syndrome – he described it as ‘a rare case of cause and effect of COVID’ – which wreaked havoc on his body as he was unconscious state.

‘All my organs became inflamed,’ he said. ‘My heart started beating irregularly, my kidneys went out, my liver started to go bad. Mind you, I didn’t know what was going on at the time. I was out.’
The rapper said he ‘had to learn how to walk again, eat, all that,’ adding that he was looking to come out of the life-altering experience with a positive perspective.
‘I look at it as kind of somewhat of a blessing now, as crazy as it might sound. I needed to sit down. I needed to take a break.’
Jeremih was on the show to talk about Merry Christmas Lil Mama: The Gift That Keeps on Giving, a holiday collaboration with Chance the Rapper.
Last month, TMZ reported that the rapper was put a ventilator as his symptoms worsened.
As of Monday, on a global level, 1,647,108 people have died amid more than 74,140,841 positive diagnoses worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins University. The death total for COVID-19 in the U.S. was at 307,226 people, with 16,955,024 total positive diagnoses.
