After weeks of speculating why WandaVision brought over Evan Peters from Fox’s X-Men universe to play Wanda’s brother, Pietro/Quicksilver, here’s what we got. A dick joke.
It was cruel. Aside from leaving the door ever-so-slightly cracked for a Season Two and creating yet another version of Vision, WandaVision‘s season finale wrapped up the whole Pietro/Fietro saga. If you need to be reminded: A couple weeks ago, Evan Peters, who played Quicksilver in Fox’s recent X-Men films, showed up in WandaVision as… Quicksilver. Naturally, we thought this was Marvel’s way of introducing the multiverse. Joke’s on us. In the finale, Fietro is revealed to be nothing more than an aspiring actor named Ralph Bohner (groan), whom Agatha Harkness merely spellbound into doing her bidding and posing as Wanda’s long-dead brother.
You can’t blame some fans over on the WandaVision Reddit for being a little disappointed. Of course, WandaVision never asked the fans to overflow Reddit with theories as to how their favorite speedster could be reincarnated into the MCU. But all of the hype for a dick joke doesn’t sit well. As you can guess, there are still some theories out there speculating that the whole Ralph Bohner thing is still a major fake-out from Marvel’s end.
The first popular theory passes the logic test. Remember early on in the season when FBI Agent Jimmy Woo says that he’s working on a missing persons case? Well, Reddit user BlueTiger (along with a ton of other WandaVision fans) thinks the missing person is Fox’s Pietro/Quicksilver, only he’s in the witness protection program, for some reason, under the name Ralph Bohner:
So they never told us who the missing person was, which was a little disappointing. However, I think it was Evan Peter’s “Ralph Bohner”.
You could easily see the MCU making good on the tease with some deep-cut, throwaway line like Woo’s paying off down the road. But check out another theory, this time from user mcotter12. This one follows, more or less, what a few WandaVision fans have in mind. Mainly, that somehow, Fox’s Quicksilver ended up in Westview. Then, Agatha not knowing that this person was a version of Pietro, cast a spell on him to be Wanda’s brother. So the whole thing was an epic coincidence. Here’s what mcotter12 wrote:
Wanda cannot bring things back from the dead, she would know she tried. Why would she not when she was totally rewriting reality to get herself the life she wanted. Pietro would have been there. But she can’t bring people back from the dead. In rewriting reality to suit her pain, she brought over the next closest thing from another reality. A man with a similar mutant power, but nothing else in common with her. This stranger became just another person in her unconscious stage production.
Regardless, you can bet that if Marvel wants Ralph to end up as Quicksilver after all? They’re gonna make it happen. See: The MCU rewriting Wanda’s entire backstory so that her powers were magical after all, instead of the creepy Age of Ultron-era HYDRA experimenting.
