England Under-21s made a bad start to Euro 2021 on Thursday, losing 1-0 to Switzerland in Koper, Slovenia.
Nice striker Dan Ndoye struck in the 77th minute to win the Group D opener, but Bastien Toma had earlier struck a post for Switzerland and Andi Zeqiri had an effort saved by England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
England’s best chance was headed wide by Lloyd Kelly in the first half, while Tom Davies and Callum Hudson-Odoi also had efforts.
Next up for Aidy Boothroyd’s side is Portugal on Sunday and Croatia on Wednesday as they bid to secure one of the two top spots from the group, which would see them qualify for the quarterfinals.
