Many fans around the world are still mourning following the passing of the iconic Cicely Tyson. On Wednesday, her family announced an official viewing, that will allow fans to say their final farewell.
According to USA Today, Cicely’s family announced that she will lie in repose at the historic Abyssinian Baptist Church, which is also the church where she worshiped. The viewing will be held on February 15th from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Those who plan to attend the viewing will of course have to follow COVID-19 protocols, which include the wearing of face masks and social distancing. There will of course be no photos taken during the viewing.
As previously reported, Cicely Tyson, unfortunately, passed away last week at the age of 96 on January 28th.
She had been in the middle of promoting her new memoir “Just As I Am.” Two days prior to her passing, her interview with Gayle King for CBS This Morning was released. During the interview, Cicely was asked if she felt like she had more to do and she said, “Yes! That’s why I’m still here. I mean, what my life became is not what I expected. I had no idea I would touch anybody.”
She was also asked what she would want people to remember about when her time comes, and she responded, “That I done my best.”
Cicely was mourned by all of Black Hollywood, including Tyler Perry, who worked closely over the past few years of her life and career. On the day of her passing, he said, “This one brought me to my knees! She was the grandmother I never had and the wisdom tree that I could always sit under to fill my cup. My heart breaks in one beat while celebrating her life in the next. To think that she lived for 96 years and I got to be a part of the last 16 brings me great joy.”
He also shared a tribute video where they celebrated her birthday at Tyler Perry Studios.
We continue to send our deepest condolences to Cicely Tyson’s loved ones.
