You might’ve heard of a certain GOAT playing in the Super Bowl this Sunday. That GOAT’s name is Tom Brady. Now, let me introduce you to the idea of the Young GOAT. Definition: Someone who isn’t the GOAT, but is the GOAT amongst the age bracket between roughly 20-30. The Young GOAT has the potential to shed the Young part of Young GOAT and become just: the GOAT.
The vocab lesson today comes in honor of a certain Young GOAT playing in this year’s Super Bowl: Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs. If you don’t know much about that guy, just understand that he’s pretty much the Steph Curry of the NFL, able to throw a football in ways no human should be able to throw a football. His Chiefs are playing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LIV. The Big Game, as you will, with a halftime performance and fun commercials should you choose to tune in. But this year’s Super Bowl might not be as important to anyone else—yeah, even Tom Brady, who’s won more than enough Super Bowls—than it is to Mahomes. The guy won last year’s Super Bowl with the Chiefs, but nabbing a ring this year is his best shot at dethroning Tom Brady as the GOAT someday.
Thankfully (for him), he has a stellar supporting cast of talent, all looking to repeat last year’s win. (The Kansas City Chiefs, by the way, have two Super Bowl wins to their name. Tom Brady is laughing somewhere at this small number.) Travis Kelce, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and Le’Veon Bell are all probably itching to hold the Lombardi trophy. Same for head coach Andy Reid, the offensive mastermind who probably cemented his place in Canton with last year’s win. Sure, it’s a tiny bit of a bummer when a team repeats a championship dub. But you love Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls, don’t you?
You can bet Patrick Mahomes will do everything he can to will his team to the finish line. Personally, if he even wants the smallest chance of catching up with Tom Brady’s ring count, or even any of his multitude of playoff records, he should really win this game. If he doesn’t? I’m sure he’ll be OK. I’m sure those Head & Shoulders ads cut a nice check.
