20 years after Walker, Texas Ranger aired its final episode, Cordell Walker is back in Texas in the CW’s reboot of the classic series, entitled just Walker. And although there is no shortage of gunfights or horses, the reboot works hard to modernize the series by packing in themes of racism, sexism, and immigration issues in Texas.
“It’s a really different show. I don’t think it could be more different than the original,” Jared Padalecki, who produced and stars as Walker in the reboot, told Newsweek. He explained that the series aims to “help provide a voice to the voiceless, whereas the last show was more purely like ‘I am hero, hear me roar’ kind of situation.”

The series follows our flawed hero Walker, a year after his wife’s untimely death, as he returns to his hometown from a long undercover assignment. Reunited with his children for the first time since their mother passed, the show tackles difficult family dynamics and social issues while Walker re-acclimates to his everyday crime-fighting Ranger life. Here’s a breakdown of the reboot’s cast, most of whom are no strangers to network television.
Jared Padalecki as Cordell Walker
Jared Padalecki plays the titular Cordell Walker. The TV actor who played Dean on Gilmore Girls is fresh off a 15-year-run on Supernatural, and returned to his home state of Texas to produce and star in the Walker reboot.
Genevieve Padalecki As Emily Walker
Jared Padalecki’s real-life wife and Supernatural co-star plays Emily Walker, Cordell’s late on-screen wife who appears only in flashbacks. Clearly the glue that held her family together, her mysterious death has devastated the Walkers, as well as left many unanswered questions.

Lindsey Morgan As Micki Ramirez
The 100 actress Lindsey Morgan plays Cordell Walker’s partner in the series–in the reboot, the character is one of the first Latinx women to be a Ranger. “My character is breaking a lot of rules and norms and fighting for change and fighting for a new era of law enforcement,” Morgan told Showbiz Cheat Sheet.
Keegan Allen As Liam Walker
Pretty Little Liars star Keegan Allen plays Walker’s more responsible younger brother Liam. A gay district attorney, his character stepped in to care for Walker’s kids after his wife passed.
Mitch Pileggi As Bonham Walker and Molly Hagan As Abeline Walker
Mitch Pileggi, who previously had roles in Supergirl and NCIS, plays Walker’s tough father, and Jane The Virgin actress Molly Hagan plays his mother. The pair has their own struggles in the show, but stepped up to house Walker’s kids while he was away on assignment.
Violet Brinson As Stella Walker and Kale Culley As Arlo Walker
The fiery daughter of the Walkers is portrayed by Violet Brinson, who recently had a role in HBO’s Sharp Objects. His son, Arlo, is played by Kale Culley, who has appeared in black-ish, Fresh Off The Boat, and NCIS. Struggling with their mother’s death and largely absent father, the Walker children each cope in their own way.
Coby Bell As Captain Larry James
Walker’s ex-partner and brand new captain is portrayed by Coby Bell, who had roles on Burn Notice, The Gifted, and Archer. Like Officer Ramirez, he is one of the only people of color in his workplace.
Jeff Pierre As Trey Barnett
Jeff Pierre, who was also in Shameless and Once Upon a Time, plays Micki Ramirez’s Army medic boyfriend.
