Just days after earning his first Oscar nomination for his critically-acclaimed role in Judas and the Black Messiah, LaKeith Stanfield revealed he’s not that interested in awards season.
The 29-year-old actor, who plays Bill O’Neal in Judas and the Black Messiah shared an image of a Deadline article about rumors that the Oscars are considering backtracking after insisting nominees show up in person, and not via Zoom.
Stanfield said in his now-deleted Instagram post, ‘No one cares lmao. Real stuff is happening. Who cares about awards.’

Even though he deleted the post, it was still captured and it spread quickly on Twitter.
This wasn’t the first time he’s deleted a tweet about his Oscar nomination, which caused some confusion among awards season pundits.
As expected, Stanfield’s co-star Daniel Kaluuya, who plays Fred Hamption, chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther party, was nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category.

Most believed that Stanfield, then, would be nominated in the Best Actor category as the film’s lead, but he was also nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category.
After the nominations were announced on March 15, Stanfield took to Instagram, stating, ‘I’m confused too but f**k it lmao.’
He ultimately deleted that post and replaced it with another tongue-in-cheek reaction, adding, ‘First time an actor with a face tattoo was nominated lmaooo.’

That post was also deleted, though his social media presence is quite sparse, with just a handful of posts including one from the set of Judas and the Black Messiah, where he’s interacting with director Shaka King.
‘When the director is talking and you’re looking at his fingers moving through the air because you were always that special child in class,’ Stanfield joked.
Both Stanfield and Kaluuya will be going up against Sacha Baron Cohen (The Trial of the Chicago 7), Leslie Odom Jr. (One Night in Miami) and Paul Raci (Sound of Metal).
