Damn. You probably didn’t think they could do it again. But they did it again. Last Chance U, which just wrapped up five seasons brilliantly capturing the chaos (and heart) in the junior college football world, is back. This time, basketball’s the sport—following the East Los Angeles College Huskies—and the drama, man tears, and weird shit (Last Chance U Goes Camping, wow) are at an all-time high.
It’s all thanks to some of the best personalities we’ve ever seen in the series, including the dunks-so-hard-it’s-life-threatening forward KJ Allen, the lovable Malik Muhammad, and the great John Mosley, who we’ll get to shortly. Of course, Last Chance U always concludes each season by telling us where every player is headed in the future. But since we’re in the middle of the college basketball season, it’s worth checking in to see how each hooper is actually doing at their respective schools. Here’s where the Huskies’ stars are now.

John Mosley, Head Coach
I’ll say it: John Mosley is the best coach Last Chance U has ever seen. What isn’t Mosley? A man of prayer. Spin instructor. Legendary basketball mind. Master of the wilderness. Damn near a poet. Sure, he’s been sidelined after his season was cancelled this year due to the pandemic. But you can bet he’s still hard at work, like Last Chance U tells us, getting everything ready for next year, quarantine beard be damned.

Joe Hampton, Forward
Joe Hampton: Holy shit. You have to respect his willpower and journey, making his way back to Division I basketball after a four-year-long struggle. Check his stat sheet from his time at Long Beach University. The guy’s been hooping. Maybe we’ll see him in Europe next year.

Deshaun Highler, Guard
Highler’s story is one of the most powerful profiles we’ve ever seen in Last Chance U. Which is saying a lot. Though, at the end of the series, he drives to Sacremento with his girlfriend, Kiera, looking forward to what’s ahead. So far, he’s played eight games at Sacramento State University.

Malik Muhammad, Forward
The big man ended up having a solid season at Central Michigan Universesity, averaging a little over 2o minutes a game as a defensive specialist. The team didn’t make the MAC Tournament, but Muhammad’s surely looking forward to next season’s campaign already.

KJ Allen, Forward
You don’t have to be a pro basketball scout to realize that KJ is probably the Husky who has the best chance at reaching the NBA someday. (Seriously, go back and watch the dude dunk.) Last Chance U tells us that Allen committed to USC, but didn’t mention that he’ll join the team next season. So it’ll still be another year until we see the high-flyer back in action.

LJ Zeigler, Guard
Unfortunately, Zeigler was one of the few big-minutes ELAC players who didn’t get the heavy Last Chance U profile treatment. When he showed up at Chicago State University, he earned some major playing time—even scoring as high as 18 points in the last game before his season was once again cancelled due to the pandemic.
